Acupuncture is part of the Traditional Chinese Medicine system, along with herbs, meditation, and a host of other techniques. Acupuncture is based on the concept that all parts of the body and mind are interconnected — every part influences the function of every other part.

The belief is that the various parts of your mind and body are connected by a vital energy called Qi (which is pronounced, and often spelled, Chi in the West). This Qi flows through the body, and any disruptions in this flow affect your health, resulting in illness. The goal of acupuncture is to keep this flow going smoothly, which keeps you healthy; or, if you’re already sick, acupuncture frees the blockages that are causing your illness.

Chiropractic

Richard has been a Massage therapist since 1999 with many years of experience working alongside both chiropractors and physical therapists which has given him a uniquely rounded and compassionate approach to meet each of his clients’ individual needs.

Richard has recently added Reflexology to his scope of practice. He uses a collaborative approach for reaching specific goals for his clients using whichever technique he feels will best achieve results.

The premise of Reflexology is that there are “reflex points” and approximately 7,000 nerve endings in the feet that correspond to every body part, organ, system and gland of the body. By stimulating and firmly manipulating these various reflex points on your feet, a reflexologist can try to affect positive changes in your health. Just about everyone from tiny babies to the very elderly benefit from reflexology. It is not just for helping the sick become well; it is all about being pro-active by maintaining health and keeping the body in the best possible condition. Reflexology treatment is very safe and non-invasive that sessions every day would be tolerated by anyone and beneficial to everyone.

Richard also offers manual Lymphatic drainage massage. As a part of our circulatory system, the Lymphatic System is responsible in healing injuries and guarding our body against diseases. This system also returns scavenging fluids and proteins, which have escaped from cells and tissue, and brings them back to the blood. By filtering toxins and bacteria, it helps our drainage system. If the lymph passages get congested, you could experience some pain or soreness etc.

Developed in the 1930s, Lymphatic Massage is a delicate form of massage therapy that invigorates our body’s lymphatic system. It applies very mild pressure that is associated with soft pumping motions in the direction of lymph nodes. The lymphatic system greatly depends on muscle contraction by deep breathing, regular exercise, and manual manipulation since it has no central pump. In other words, it is a static system. Lymph only flows “when we move our bodies”. Vigorous exercise provides the greatest benefit to generating lymphatic stimulation. The main benefit of this type of massage is increased in immune system function, improvement in metabolism, and elimination of toxins. It is best to drink plenty of water.
